B.C. Western's Luke Lacourse on the mound against Powers

This week's Athlete of the Week is Luke LaCourse from Bay City Western.

AUBURN, Mich. (WJRT) - You want your best players to perform when the lights are the brightest.

Bay City Western's Luke Lacourse didn't just stand in the spotlight against Powers, he was dancing.

"He's not afraid of the moment. That's was a big game, that was a huge game," said Warriors head coach Mike McDonald.

Luke was dialed in like computers in the early 2000s: 9 strikes outs, no runs allowed and his first career no-hitter.

"I know they hit me up a little bit last year. So this was kind of like a revenge game for me," said Lacourse. "Coming into it that wasn't my train of thought. Then once I got to the 6th inning, I looked up there and I was like 'Oh my God.' Then I looked the runs and we up 2-0 and we couldn't lose this game."

The Warriors got the win, 2-0.

The Michigan State commit got the moment he's waited his entire career for.

"Those experiences I got the first two years helped me build up to this game and helped me perform," said Lacourse.

The lights will only get brighter for the junior, but he's just focused on one pitch at a time.

"I know we haven't won a district since 2016," Lacourse explains. "So, that's our goal this year to win that district and make a run in the playoffs."

Lacourse says this season he's really been digging in the archives and one pitcher he loves to watch is former Tiger great Justin Verlander.
