Crash ties up traffic on northbound I-75 in Flint Township

A crash on northbound I-75 in Flint Township caused a miles-long traffic backup during the busy rush hour Friday afternoon.

FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT) - A crash caused a miles-long back up on northbound I-75 during the busy rush hour Friday afternoon before the freeway reopened.

The crash was reported shortly before 3 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway north of the Corunna Road interchange in Flint Township.

Authorities could not immediately say whether anyone was injured or how the crash happened.

The Michigan Department of Transportation reported all northbound lanes of I-75 closed at Corunna Road while crews investigated and cleared the scene. The traffic backup extended south to Hill Road in Mundy Township.

MDOT reported all lanes opened about an hour later around 3:40 p.m. and the traffic jam began clearing. Heavy traffic is likely to persist into the evening hours with the weekend rush to Northern Michigan.
