MDOT is closing eastbound U.S. 10 at Mackinaw Road overnight and forcing traffic to use the exit and entrance ramps while contractors set new bridge beams.

BAY COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) - Traffic on eastbound U.S. 10 will have to make a slight detour July 16 while contractors set beams for a new Mackinaw Road bridge.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is closing both eastbound lanes under the Mackinaw Road overpass from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. that night.

All eastbound traffic will be forced to exit at Mackinaw Road, cross over the roadway and get back on the freeway using the Mackinaw Road entrance ramp. This is the same configuration used when the bridge was demolished.

MDOT closed Mackinaw Road at U.S. 10 in May for the remainder of this summer to rebuild the interchange. The project includes new a new overpass and new roundabouts north and south of the freeway.

The Mackinaw Road work is part of a $32.8 million project to rebuild U.S. 10 between Bay City and 7 Mile Road while rebuilding the Mackinaw Road interchange.

U.S. 10 is limited to one lane in each direction in the construction zone until the project is complete this fall.
