Northbound I-75 closing Friday evening in northern Oakland County

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) - Drivers heading north on I-75 will have to detour around the construction zone between Clarkston and Grand Blanc this weekend.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is closing all lanes of northbound I-75 from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday so contractors can install emergency pull-off lanes on the median side in the construction zone.

Northbound drivers will be forced to exit the freeway at U.S. 24 or Dixie Highway in Clarkston. The detour will direct them north on Dixie Highway into Genesee County, where they can reenter northbound I-75.

The weekend closure will not affect the two southbound lanes that are open currently.

MDOT is in the midst of a four-year, $160 million project to resurface 18 miles of I-75 in both directions and repair bridges between Clarkston and Grand Blanc. This year, work is focusing on the northbound side of the freeway.

Two lanes of travel are open in both directions on the southbound side until this fall. The configuration will flip in 2025 with two lanes of travel in both directions on the newly repaved northbound side.
