A Ministerial Council comprising Health Ministers from each state and territory and the Commonwealth has oversight of the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (National Scheme) under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (the National Law). They currently meet as Health Ministers Meeting (HMMs). More information – please go to the HMMs website.
From time to time, Health Ministers appoint members to National Boards, issue communiqués, policy directions, guidance and directives and publish reports relevant to the National Scheme. Ahpra publishes this information on this webpage. Ahpra and the National Boards do not decide these matters.
Health Ministers also decide reforms to the National Law. Ahpra is tasked with implementing reforms once they are passed into law.
Before December 2021, documents were published on the archived COAG Health Council website and Ahpra also published the information on our website for ease of reference.
Policy directions
The Ministerial Council may issue Ahpra and National Boards with binding policy directions. Guidance about the National Scheme may also be issued.
