The Red Sox’ latest fielding misadventures in two GIFs

Dustin Pedroia fought the sun, and the sun won.

When Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez’s outing against the Toronto Blue Jays began unraveling on Sunday, his teammates in the field didn’t exactly pick him up. The left-handed rookie issued a string of hits in the top of the fourth inning, allowing a pair of quick runs. With the bases loaded and just one out, it still looked like Rodriguez might get out of serious trouble. He induced a shallow Kevin Pillar pop-fly for what would have been the inning’s second out.

Then this happened.

The Blue Jays tallied their third of six runs in the inning on this play, officially scored a fielder’s choice. Rodriguez’s day was done after he gave up his seventh and eighth earned runs in the top of the fifth. That frame also included a fielding misadventure involving Pedroia.
