A startup that has created a gaming studio for emerging and smaller creators has secured $4.5 million in seed funding.
Los Angeles-based Look North World, which launched in 2023, bills itself as a "gaming ecosystem" for user-generated content creators and is already profitable, CEO Alexander Seropian told Business Insider in an interview.
The startup allows creators to build games within existing juggernauts such as Fortnite, for which it has so far developed and published five games using the Unreal Engine.
While established titles such as "Grand Theft Auto" have budgets of hundreds of millions, "what we do is on the very other end of that spectrum. The budgets are less than $1 million, but the reach is huge because we work with players such as Fortnite," Seropian told BI.
Seropian and COO Patrick Moran are both Disney alums.
London Venture Partners led the fundraise. Bandai Namco Entertainment 021 Fund, Overwolf, Crush Ventures, the venture arm of Crush Music, Hasbro, Pix Capital, and existing investor Hibbard Road Partners also participated.
Seropian said the startup would use the cash injection to develop its creator label, which will offer game creators a guaranteed advance, ownership of intellectual property, a marketing budget for game distribution, and technical mentorship.
