Tandem, an AI-powered healthcare startup, has raised $9.5 million in seed funding.
Its CEO, Lukas Saari, previously worked on healthcare analytics in the Nordic region at McKinsey and told Business Insider he understood "how the healthcare market works and clinicians' experiences with legacy IT systems."
"With the rise of ChatGPT and generative AI, I personally became obsessed with this technological shift and believe it's the largest one that will happen in our lifetime," he added.
Founded in 2023, Tandem is a SaaS offering that uses generative AI to create structured medical notes in different languages with the correct terminology.
Tandem works with practitioners' existing IT systems, allowing them to integrate the software with their regular operations, Saari told BI.
Saari added that he believed the time Tandem's product could help clinicians see two more patients per day, on average. He added the company was compliant with all relevant data privacy laws and does not store audio files, which clinicians retain.
Northzone led the seed funding round, which also included angel operators from companies like OpenAI, DeepMind, and Amino Collective.
The funding round took just two weeks to complete.
Tandem received multiple term sheets from VC funds. Saari attributed this to the excitement about the use of AI in the healthcare space.
Funding will go toward expanding the company's team as it looks to grow in new territories.
