The Canadian Media Directors’ Council is an independent association of media professionals representing advertising media agencies to ensure a fair, progressive marketplace on behalf of our clients, our agencies, and our media partners. For 40 years, we have been strategic advisors, advocates, and leaders in Canadian advertising, contributing to a healthy, responsible media ecosystem.

Our members account for 96% of the total media ad spend transacted annually in Canada. In 2023, that was over $13 billion invested in the Canadian economy, Canadian jobs, and our communications infrastructure. The media industry represents a diversity of voices, bringing our thinking and our content to the audiences we serve.

"Invest in Canada" is a topic of paramount importance as we navigate both the challenges and opportunities that define our present and shape our future. Investing in Canada means more than just financial commitments; it signifies igniting economic growth, cultivating talent, and propelling innovation forward. By focusing on these areas, we can ensure a vibrant and sustainable media landscape that benefits all stakeholders.

As a Canadian media association, our goal is to support local media with initiatives like The Canadian Media Manifesto, which is a commitment to supporting a healthy, responsible, and prosperous media ecosystem that suits the needs of advertisers, consumers, and Canada’s democracy.

In today's dynamic and rapidly evolving media landscape, the role of a media agency has become more critical and multifaceted than ever before. Media agencies act as strategic partners for brands, helping them navigate the complex world of advertising and communication to achieve their business objectives.

Clients regard media agencies as business partners due to the impact of our services in delivering commercial results—this requires in-depth knowledge of clients’ brands and services to ensure their goals are met.

Annually in Canada, over $13 billion is invested in media, and the majority of this is placed by our member media agencies on behalf of their clients. This sector is not only a very dynamic field but also influential economically. As spending increases year on year, the number of media channels to buy has increased, promising a bright future.
