Truth behind Rachel Zoe and Rodger Berman shock divorce following 33 years together

Fans were stunned when Rachel Zoe and Rodger Berman ended their 26-year marriage earlier this week.

Zoe, 53, and Berman, 55, had been together for 33 years, meeting in 1991 at a wedding in Washington D.C.

They tied the knot in 1998 and share two children together, though while fans may have thought it was sudden, it was in the cards for quite awhile.

'This divorce was a long time coming. There is no scandal or smoking gun, it’s more death by a thousand cuts,' a source told US Weekly.

'Their main issues were mixing their personal and professional lives too much,' the source continued.

'Rodger is the president of her company, so they had to have hard conversations about their marriage and about the business that weighed on their relationship,' the source continued.

The exes both co-founded Rachel Zoe Inc. and have appeared on television together for years, though, in their personal lives, they have not spent as much time together.

'Rachel spent the summer in the Hamptons and Rodger was rarely [there], and they realized that they are better apart than together,' the source said.

'Also, the kids are older now, so they felt more comfortable separating because of that,' the source continued, referring to their sons Skyler, 13, and Kaius, 11.

Zoe announced the split on her Instagram earlier this week, stating, 'After 33 years together and 26 years married, Rodger and I have come to the mutual decision to end our marriage.'

She added, 'We are incredibly proud of the loving family we have created and our countless memories together.

'Our number one priority has been and will always be our children,' she stated on the social media.

'We are committed to coparent our boys and to continue to work together within the many businesses we share. We ask for privacy during this time as we navigate this new chapter,' she said.

As the fashion designer adjusts to her newly single status, she has a great support system around her.

'I’m surrounded by angel friends,” she wrote via her Instagram Story on Tuesday, September 10, alongside a video showing several bouquets of flowers.

Among those who sent Zoe flowers one day after her divorce announcement were Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy and his wife, Serena Levy.

Parts of their marriage were documented on the Bravo reality series The Rachel Zoe Project, which aired from 2007 to 2013.

The two also appeared on Lifetime's Fashionably Late With Rachel Zoe, which lasted one season in 2015.
