Repository Policy for Book Publications

We at De Gruyter want to enable our authors to share their content while simultaneously protecting the sustainability of our publications and established scholarly series. On this page, we have compiled information on the conditions under which you as the author may share your content in repositories and your own websites.

Publications in Gold Open Access

For books and articles published in Gold Open Access, the conditions of the respective Creative Commons license apply.

Regulations for other types of publication

For scientific monographs, up to two chapters, but no more than 10% of the AM, may be made available via institutional repositories, the repository of your funding organization or on your own website. There is no embargo in this case.

You can find a separate repository policy for articles in academic journals on our website.

This repository policy does not apply to contributions published in encyclopedias, reference works, exhibition catalogues, commentaries, and textbooks.

Please note:

It is not permitted to upload contributions to commercial websites such as ResearchGate or academia.edu or to social media platforms.

We would also like to point out that in the case of images, figures or long quotations, special attention must be paid to third party rights. These rights may be subject to more restrictive regulations and must be cleared separately with the respective rights holders.

This policy applies only to the publisher De Gruyter, its imprints, as well as to Birkhäuser. It does not apply to publications by Sciendo or our publishing partners.

Glossary

All Rights Reserved means that the exploitation rights of your publication remain with the author and/or publisher despite publication in Green Open Access. The use of a CC license is not permitted in these cases.

Author Manuscript (AM) means your peer-reviewed and revised manuscript, prior to copy-editing and typesetting by the publisher.

Gold Open Access: The final version of an article or book is published immediately in Open Access, i.e., it is freely available online immediately upon publication. At De Gruyter, we use Creative Commons licenses for Open Access publications, which regulates the subsequent use of the work.

Green Open Access: Green open access means providing free access to another version of a first publication that is not freely accessible (self-archiving). This secondary publication usually takes place in institutional or specialist repositories.

Imprints of the De Gruyter publishing house are Akademie Forschung, Deutscher Kunstverlag, Düsseldorf University Press (dup), Jovis, Mouton, Oldenbourg and Saur. The policy also applies to publications from these imprints.

Preprint/Draft refers to your manuscript before peer review.

Version of Record refers to the final published version of your manuscript. This version has been reviewed, revised, typeset, and is paginated.
