Revisit and reflect on Translation 2024: Watch conference sessions on demand!
24 May 2024
Dementias Platform UK recently welcomed the dementia research community to London for two days packed full of research updates, collaboration and networking at the Translation 2024 conference.
DPUK action to revolutionise dementia diagnosis rates through READ-OUT Project
23 May 2024
There is a huge focus right now around improving dementia diagnosis rates. Part of the work we’re doing here at DPUK enables researchers to identify biomarkers which may be able to detect the risk of dementia earlier, confirmed by a simple blood test. This could be transformational in speeding up and improving the diagnostic process.
How DPUK is adapting to rapid change
23 May 2024
We have seen some major developments across all our activities in the last year. In fact, rapid change is the theme for DPUK's annual report, just published.
Our research
The DPUK Data Portal gives researchers rapid, secure access to millions of health research records.
Our Trials Delivery Framework matches public volunteers to the right dementia studies.
Our Experimental Medicine Incubator accelerates and de-risks the development of new treatments.
Featured research: Can our genes predict our likelihood of developing dementia?
A project led by researchers at Cardiff University is analysing data in the DPUK Data Portal to predict genetic risk of dementia, focusing on genes related to the brain's immune system.
Featured Researcher
Ammar Shahabuddin
Research Assistant, Genomics
Ammar works as a genomics research assistant, involved in the harmonisation and analysis of genomic samples for DPUK. His research work primarily focuses on the utilisation of cohorts’ genomic data and how it can be analysed for risk prediction for dementia causing conditions like Alzheimer’s Disease. This work will be further developed through the creation of a pipeline tool that can be used by researchers in the Data Portal.
Prior to joining, he achieved a BSc in Biochemistry at King’s College London and a MSc in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology at the University of Manchester.
