What to Expect in the 2024-2025 School Year
Stanislaus County is continuing a partnership with Sierra Vista Child & Family Services to elevate our Employee Volunteer Mentor Program. Sierra Vista Child and Family Services’ specialized team will provide on-site support, guaranteeing that volunteers have the knowledge and skills needed to forge meaningful connections with their student mentees. To enhance the mentorship experience, sessions will continue to be a more comprehensive one-hour format. Additionally, the Employee Volunteer Mentor Program is open to retirees of Stanislaus County, inviting their wealth of experience to positively impact the development of our community's youth.
Who We Are
For over 25 years, the County Employee Volunteer Mentor Program continues to grow alongside the many needs in our county related to elementary education. In 1999, the Chief Executive Office developed a mentor program to address the County’s high dropout rate of 23.6%, which was one of the highest for the state of California. It was a local epidemic requiring a local, community-driven solution to combat potential barriers.
What We Do
- Consistent Support and Guidance
We volunteer one hour each week to mentor a child at a selected local school, providing consistent support and guidance that fosters trust and stability. - Academic Support
By reading with young people and assisting with homework, we help improve their reading comprehension and academic performance, fostering a love for learning and boosting their confidence. - Motivation and Encouragement
We challenge young people to set and achieve their goals, which builds their self-esteem, encourages perseverance, and helps them realize their potential. - Social-Emotional Development
Our mentorship offers emotional support, helping children develop better coping strategies, social skills, and a sense of belonging, which positively impacts their overall well-being. - Cultivate Connections
Through our mentorship, we create positive, lasting relationships that benefit not only the students but also strengthen our community by nurturing the next generation of leaders and achievers.
What We Offer
This program positively impacts the lives of young people who may be struggling in the classroom for various reasons. Employees volunteer their time to change a young person’s life by helping them identify, grow, and achieve their goals.
