Gardeners’ World star Monty Don took to Instagram to celebrate the result of the latest general election.
However, the horticulturist’s post was met with a mixed reaction from his 1.3 million followers as some praised his new local MP while others criticised his support.
Alongside a photo of his flourishing garden adorned with lush and colourful flowers, Monty wrote: “I am delighted that I am now represented in Parliament by a Green MP.
“Many congratulations to Ellie Chowns for winning Herefordshire North. An historic achievement,” the BBC presenter added.
Taking to the comments, @ronabromley penned: “Perhaps better to stick to plants than politics.”
As @lplc5190 slammed: “It’s insane. Did people bother to read their manifesto?
“I don’t see them standing up for the farming industry or scrapping the net zero targets which would harm rural communities.”
Despite the backlash, others related to his joy including @breezesuzanne who commented: “I'm so pleased for you Monty!”
@nicole_croft stated: “Lucky you!!! So so wonderful. The Greens did so well.”
Monty has been very active on social media and sparked a fan frenzy on Thursday after sharing an impressive transformation.
He shared a series of before and after images of his outdoor space which featured topped trees, over trimmed hedgerows along a muddy field.
The second photo unveiled its progress, as the surrounding trees were full, bright green and perfectly trimmed.
Monty was pleased with the change as he took to the caption with a two-word verdict: “Transformation complete.”
