Matt Baker, the much-adored Countryfile presenter, has delved into personal revelations about how his reality has shifted upon entering what he dubs 'mid-life,' voicing feelings of redundancy with respect to his offspring.

The 46 year old television favourite confided his intimate reflections regarding his two children, Molly and Luke, now aged 14 and 16.

During an engaging discussion on 'The Mid Point with Gabby Logan', Matt shared: "I think that's the thing with mid-life, your children become so capable that you're not needed in those same ways anymore, you cheer from the sidelines, you become their biggest supporter.

"But you're not needed in the same ways, so what're you going to do?".

Making a name for himself as a beloved host on the hit children's show Blue Peter in 1999, alongside figures like Sky Sports' Simon Thomas and Gethin Jones, Matt departed the programme in 2006, reports the Mirror.

Post his Blue Peter era, Matt has become a familiar face on other BBC staples such as Countryfile and The One Show.

Adding to his heartfelt admissions, Matt discussed the evolution of his relationship with his parents since hitting this life milestone.

Speaking with Gabby, he explained: "That for me is the biggest thing, the arrival in that sort of mid-life chapter. You start looking after your parents in the same way they looked after you, and it's like how you can look out for them, what can you do, how can you be helpful?".

"The joy that you can have spending time with your parents when you're at a different stage in life, I think is really wonderful. Because, you're at the stage of life that they were at when you were little, and it's amazing."

"I love watching my children with my mum and dad."

Matt was reflecting on the approaching empty nest phase as his children grow up, mentioning that his wife Nicola had paused her career as a physiotherapist to dedicate time to raising their two kids. Now seizing the opportunity, she's excited to pursue a 'new passion' in writing children's books.

Commenting on his wifes emergent authorial journey, he shared, "She's flying now! It's done her so good. It's brilliant, I'm so excited for her, I'm so proud of her."

Following the podcast's release, Nicola has debuted her first two children's tales, 'Finding Hope' and 'Rescuing Ruby'.
