A motoring expert has taken to TikTok to share a cool hidden feature on one of the UK’s best-selling family cars.
The TikTok user @automotivewoman regularly posts short videos to her page in which she shows viewers interesting and unusual features on the latest models.
In a popular video, @automotivewoman shows owners of the Kia Sportage how they can change the amount of engine noise at the touch of a few buttons.
She explained: “Hey guys the 2023 Kia Sportage has a unique feature where it allows you to change the engine note sound. Check this out. Come over here to the infotainment screen, scroll to ‘Setup’, select ‘Vehicle’, look for ‘Active Sound Design’ and then choose your sound.
“So, [there is] smallest, moderate, largest, and let me tell you, if you keep it in largest mode, it is loud inside this cabin.”

In the video, the TikToker shows off the Active Sound Design feature seen on the latest generation of the Kia Sportage.
This feature uses the speakers to amplify the noise of the engine to make drivers feel as if they are in a high-performance race car, rather than a family SUV.
Sportage owners are able to choose from three volume settings, and can turn the feature off if they would prefer to give their ears a rest.

Whilst increasing the volume or changing properties of engine noise is an unusual feature, there are several other models to include Active Sound Design.
The feature can also be found on the Kia EV6, even though this all-electric model does not feature an engine to produce noise.
In addition, the latest Abarth 500, the sporty version of the Fiat 500 Electric, includes Active Sound Design to give drivers the thrill of a buzzy petrol engine without the emissions or costs at the pumps.
