According to Shaun Veran, a microbiologist and COO of OURA, pre-treating odorous areas with baking soda or vinegar can eliminate tough, set-in smells.
"Baking soda is a mild alkali that helps neutralise acidic odours and acts as a gentle abrasive to lift stains from the fabric," Veran explained.
On the other hand, vinegar's acidity breaks down odour-causing residues and serves as a natural fabric softener, leaving clothes clean and soft.

Baking Soda Method:
- Sprinkle baking soda directly onto the affected areas of the clothing.
- Let it sit for 15-30 minutes to absorb the odours.
- Gently scrub the area with a soft brush or cloth.
- Wash the clothing as usual in your washing machine.
Vinegar Method:
- Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle.
- Spray the mixture onto the areas with set-in odours.
- Let it sit for about 15 minutes.
