Whether you grew up in a British seaside town or escaped to the coast after years of city living, there's nothing quite like life by the sea. Several seaside destinations across the UK have seen house prices skyrocket over the last year as a result of growing popularity.

And there is one coastal town which has been dubbed home of the most expensive coastal property markets.
Located within the South Devon Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty, Salcombe is known for its outstanding coastal views and rolling surrounding countryside. It's also known for its soaringly high house prices.

According to the latest data from Rightmove, the average price of homes listed on the platform reached more than £1million, despite being 22 percent down on the previous year.
Rightmove said: "Properties in Salcombe had an overall average price of £1,033,620 over the last year.
"The majority of sales in Salcombe during the last year were detached properties, selling for an average price of £1,353,556. Flats sold for an average of £645,071, with terraced properties fetching £1,016,000."
As a result of its stunning surroundings, the area has attracted plenty of celebrities over the years for both holidays and to live.
The likes of Ruby Wax, Mary Berry and the late comedian Rik Mayall, have all owned property in the area over the years, and Mary Berry has even previously compared Salcombe to the south of France.
Speaking to The Western Morning News, she said: “There is so much I love about it – when the sun is shining you could be in the south of France – someplace like Nice or Cannes, but without the crowds.”
