Peston: Russian UN official blasts western ‘hype and hysteria’ over Ukraine - ‘Fantasies’
A RUSSIAN United Nations official has blasted the "hysteria and hype" over the Western response to the crisis in Ukraine.
Russian UN official slams western ‘hysteria’ over Ukraine invasion
Dmitry Polyanskiy the First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN told ITV’s Robert Peston the situation was “ridiculous”. Mr Polyanskiy blasted the Western response claiming they had “convinced the whole world” that Russia was going to invade Ukraine.
He said: “This is a very ridiculous situation.
“There has been hysteria, even hype by our Western colleagues.
“Convinced each other and the whole world that Russia was about to invade.
“They were even naming concrete dates, so it happened in their minds and heads.
“Why should we be related in any term to what they are trying to promote?
“It’s their fantasies and they are responsible for these fantasies.”
In response, Robert Peston pointed out that there had been a large build-up of Russian troops near the border with Ukraine.
However, Mr Polyanskiy was dismissive of these reports and asked why there was little coverage of the build-up of Ukrainian troops near the separatist pro-Russian Donbass area.

He said: “I don’t know who counted them.
“I heard there was some British intelligence, but we don’t trust them.
“Remember weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
“They say in the western press 100,000, yesterday President Biden said 120,000.
