Labour event erupts into chaos as David Lammy silenced by furious protestors
Tensions rose after two pro-Palestinian protestors interrupted David Lammy's speech at one of Labour's biggest events in the political calendar.
A speech by Labour's Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy has erupted into chaos this afternoon after a pro-Palestine protestor jumped onto the stage at a Labour Party event in London.
The MP for Tottenham was heckled by two people while speaking at Guildhall Yard at the FEPS-Fabian Society's New Year Conference 2024: Plans for Power event.
The event, which was billed as one of the "biggest events in the political calendar", was meant to serve as a platform for Mr Lammy to detail Labour's foreign policy in the event the party won the next general election.
But he was interrupted by protesters waving Palestinian flags who could be heard shouting “when will you condemn the genocide?" and "how many more children need to die?” as they mounted the stage.
Security officials led one of the protesters out of the building, after which another attendee took their turn to stand up and heckle the MP.

They were heard shouting a question at Mr Lammy, asking him how he could "call himself a socialist", to which he replied: "I was born in Tottenham, don't worry... we all want to see a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza."
At least two other protesters were heard interrupting the speech, with further outbursts of "you should be ashamed of yourself" and "blood on your hands".
Following the repeated heckling, Mr Lammy said: “We all want to see a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza. I want change through power, not through protest.”
He was also heard repeating: "Change through power, not process."

The Fabian Society event was meant to bring together a selection of the Labour top brass, with other senior figures expected to attend this afternoon.
Among those tipped to attend were Emily Thornberry, the shadow Attorney General, Labour chair Anneliese Dodds, Hillary Ben, the shadow Northern Ireland secretary, and Jonathan Reynolds, the shadow trade secretary.
Labour has faced protests from its left-wing supporters in recent months due to Sir Keir Starmer's hardening rhetoric surrounding Israel's actions in Gaza.
Early on in the war, Sir Keir declared that Israel "has the right to defend itself", without offering the same support for Palestinians caught in the crossfire.
The Labour leader has spoken out against Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu recently, however, following the shock admission that the prime minister no longer supports a two-state solution in the Middle East.
Mr Netanyahu declared on Thursday, January 18, that Israel must have total security control of all land west of the River Jordan, including the territory of a future Palestinian state.
Sir Keir denounced the Israeli leader's words as "unacceptable", a statement Mr Lammy repeated on stage earlier this afternoon.
