Meghan and Harry 'lack magic' and 'can't compete' with William and Kate
The Sussexes are learning the hard way that royalty "does not travel well", said historian Tessa Dunlop.
Sussexes’ Spotify deal ends after one series of Meghan’s podcast
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been warned their “lack of magic” since relocating to the United States means they can no longer compete with the Prince and Princess of Wales and other UK royals.
The Sussexes have been chastened in recent weeks after it was revealed Netflix has pulled the plug on Meghan’s Spotify podcast, and the couple are thought to be pondering their next move as they look for projects to keep them busy.
Royal expert Tessa Dunlop said the pomp and circumstance afforded US President Joe Biden during his recent visit to the UK indicated there remained a huge appetite for all things royal on both sides of the Atlantic.
And she suggested it was the ceremonial aspect which Meghan and Harry were now unable to muster.
She explained: "Surrounded by pomp and ceremony, the visit was a reminder that the trappings of royalty are what sets it apart.

“And the absence of those trappings is what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex so sorely lack."
Ms Dunlop, a historian who has presented several shows for the BBC, Channel 4 and others, told The Mirror: “Surrounded by pomp and ceremony, the visit was a reminder that the trappings of royalty are what sets it apart. And the absence of those trappings is what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex so sorely lack.
"After all, no matter how great your celebrity (and yes, despite what disgruntled Spotify bosses say, the couple are still big news), in America there will always be someone richer and more famous."
She added: “Over there, fame is commonplace, not so the magic and mystery that comes with monarchy. As the Sussexes are discovering to their cost, royalty does not travel well (abdicated Edward VIII found this out in the late 1930s).
"To really flourish more than titles and money are required. Harry, barefoot in a beanie, can't compete with William in full-blown honorary military uniform. Meghan in Valentino or Givenchy is less noteworthy than the Princess of Wales in her Lover's Knot tiara (once Diana's) and badge of the Royal Victorian Order."
Princess Kate's strict rules that entire family must follow when they are at home
Princess Kate has some strict rules that she and her entire family must follow while they are at home at Adelaide Cottage, the property they moved into last year, just east of Windsor Castle in Windsor Home Park.
She and Prince William are currently raising their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis there, where they attend the nearby Lambrook School.
The four-bedroom house is also closer to Kate's parents Carole and Michael Middleton in Berkshire, but it does come with one downside that the family have to respect.
Adelaide Cottage is a Grade II-listed building, meaning it is subject to strict planning rules and regulations that even the royals must adhere to.
Any alterations must be approved with special permission, even if they simply want to replace a window or add an extra room.
Scottish Government mark royal first by giving Coronation gift - despite republican leader
King Charles and Queen Camilla were gifted special items in celebration of the monarch's Coronation in Scotland last week, in spite of SNP leader and Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf declaring his republican views.
Ahead of the ceremony at St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh on July 5 the King and Queen hosted a garden party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse on July 4 to celebrate the occasion.
Prior to this, Mr Yousaf gave them Coronation gifts "on behalf of the people of Scotland", the Carolean Table, the Paperweight and the Wentworth Elm.
The Table was created from oak grown in the Kingdom of Fife and featuring the Lion's Rampant and the King's cypher, while the Paperweight is made from reclaimed Teak which was originally used in the Edinburgh Castle drawbridge in 1938 and the Elm is a sapling from a rare sub-species which was initially thought to be extinct.
According to Commons Library clerk David Torrance on Twitter, this is thought to be the first time the Scottish Government has offered such a gift to the royals.
Camilla reveals she worked as a ball girl and cracks hilarious joke during Wimbledon visit
Queen Camilla made her first appearance of the year at Wimbledon today (Wednesday July 12) as she watched the quarter-finals on Centre Court alongside her sister Annabel Elliot.
Dressed in a summery white outfit with dark stripes running down, Her Majesty looked cheerful and relaxed watching one of the Royal Family's favourite sports, with Zara and Mike Tindall also in SW19 to watch the tennis.
Before taking her seat in the Royal Box, the 75-year-old was introduced to ball boy Sean, 16, and two ball girls, Larissa, 15, and Cassie, 16, where she asked them if they had worked at Wimbledon before and if they were enjoying their role.
She cracked jokes with the teenagers as she revealed that she was once a ball girl herself, "one hundred years ago at Queen's [Club]", saying you have to be very "agile" as the job is "quite difficult".
Camilla then told Sean that if he was working across all the courts he must be "feeling very fit" and asked Cassie if she was "a bit of an expert" as she said she had been a ball girl at a previous championship.

Prince Harry suggests rift with William was brewing before he married Meghan Markle
Prince Harry has consistently rubbished claims that Meghan Markle was responsible for the breakdown of his relationship with Prince William, and now a recently emerged TikTok video appears to back up his claims.
In the footage, taken from a documentary filmed in 2016 - the year Harry and Meghan first met - the two brothers are seen watching footage from Harry's christening in 1984, when he was three months old.
In the documentary Elizabeth at 90: A Family Tribute, the princes are interviewed about their childhood and their relationship with their late mother, Princess Diana.
In the TikTok clip taken from the show, William jokes: "It's hard to tell whether you're a boy or a girl in that dress," while Harry replies: "Thank you. I think that normally happens at that stage of your life, you don't really have much of a decision over what you're wearing."
The Duke of Sussex then continues: "Look how excited you are, you've got a younger brother", before adding as a humourous aside: "Didn't last long did it?"

King Charles 'entirely comfortable' with President Joe Biden patting his back
King Charles was "entirely comfortable" being touched by United States President Joe Biden when they held a friendly summit at Windsor Castle.
The President, 80, technically broke protocol by repeatedly placing his hand on the monarch's back as they met inside the quadrangle at Windsor ahead of a discussion about climate change.
As the duo prepared to listen to a rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner - the US national anthem - played by the Welsh Guards, Mr Biden placed his hand on the King.
However, the two men were seen laughing and chatting, signalling that they do in fact appear to get on well, reports the Daily Mail.
