The King's Birthday Parade may double as a welcome back party for both King Charles and Princess Kate, who have been away from the public eye for health reasons.

The Princess of Wales to attend Trooping the Colour

This year’s Trooping the Colour is going to have a different air about it after such a hard start to the year for the Royal Famliy, claims one royal expert.

Also known as the King’s Birthday Parade, it is a way for the nation to come together and celebrate the reigning monarch and put a spotlight on the military.

King Charles has been undergoing cancer treatment since February, but he was was well enough to resume his royal duties at the end of April. On top of that, it was announced earlier today that Princess Kate, who is also undergoing cancer treatment, and still on medical leave from royal duties, will be in attendance.

Brittani Barger, co-founder of Royal News, told Daily Express US: “I think this year's Trooping will have a different air in that people will be happy to see King Charles out and about and undertaking such an important event in the royal calendar.

“I think it's an encouraging sign for his health, that he feels well enough and that his doctors think him well enough to attend Trooping and more public facing royal engagements.

“I think it’s fantastic that Catherine will be attending Trooping. It’s also an encouraging sign for her health that she feels well enough to attend.”

Kate is expected to travel by carriage from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guard’s Parade with her three children.

Prior to the announcement, there was concern that Charles may be a little lonely on the balcony, but now that Kate, George, Charlotte and Louis are confirmed to attend, it’s starting to feel like a birthday party fit for a king.

Prince William was already scheduled to attend, arriving on horseback, meaning the entire Wales family will be there to celebrate Charles.

Ms Barger said of the tradition: “Probably the most well-known part of the day is the balcony appearance when the monarch and Royal Family appear on the balcony to wave to the people and to watch the fly past by the Royal Air Force.”

She added: “It's a very British event with the traditional pomp and circumstance. You don't see this type of huge celebration in other countries with monarchies.”

In addition to the Waleses, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, are expected to attend, but it’s yet to be confirmed.

We may see some new faces added to the mix, with royal watcher Richard Kay predicting Edward and Sophie will bring their children, Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl Wessex.

The Sussexes, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, will not be attending, but that does not mean they will sit home and quietly watch the parade from the comfort of their home in Montecito, California.
