Video footage has emerged of Metropolitan Police officers wading into a pro-Palestine protest outside a branch of Barclays Bank in central London.

Cops were seen engaging with protesters on Tottenham Court Road in the centre of the capital, who had blocked the entrance to the branch.

The activists, reported by Middle East Monitor to be from the School of Oriental and African Studies [SOAS] Liberated Zone for Gaza group, were heard chanting "Barclays is painted red" and "Your profits are covered in Palestinian blood."

The clip shows mainly masked activists obstructing the entrance to the branch before officers attempt to break up the demonstration.

A person with a megaphone was leading chants of "Barclays, Barclays, shame on you", as the officers managed to work their way into the crowd.

In the melee, both officers and activists ended up on the floor, with some demonstrators appearing to violently resist. It is unclear whether any arrests were made.

This comes in the wake of shocking pro-Palestine protests last night, which saw a female police officer sustained serious facial injuries after being hit in the face with a bottle.

In total, three police officers were injured and 40 people were arrested during the demonstration in Westminster.

The protest was organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign following Israel’s bombing of the city of Rafah.

Westminster Police shared a clip of officers moving in to put an end to the disorder. The video was captioned: "Officers are identifying the ringleaders in this group and specialist arrest teams in protective equipment are going into the crowd to detain and extract them."

Metropolitan Police said the suspect who threw the bottle has not been identified but police are investigating.
