Seb Gorka, the ex-Deputy Assistant to President Trump, has warned that the "special relationship" would be in jeopardy with Sir Keir Starmer at the helm in Number 10.

The British-born American advisor-turned-commentator branded the Labour leader as a "self-loathing woke politician of the Left", strongly implying that he believed Mr Starmer didn't love his country.

Writing for Daily Express, the 53-year-old said: "The world is a safer place when America leads. Not an interventionist neo-conservative America, but an America typified by the stance of President Trump: treating our enemies as enemies and our friends as friends.

"There has been no better friend than the United Kingdom over the years. The 'Special Relationship' was truly special. But it only worked when the leadership of both nations loved their respective countries.

"Right now it looks increasingly as if President Trump will be back as the 47th Commander-in-Chief. The Special Relationship will only be special again if the resident of 10 Downing Street isn’t a self-loathing woke politician of the Left."

Drawing an equivalence between the Democrats in the US and the Labour Party in Britain, Mr Gorka pointed to rising mortgage rates, spiralling inflation and eye-watering immigration figures under Joe Biden, as reasons to fear a Starmer government.

He wrote: "I will warn you of what happens if Labour returns to power.

"Since my former boss left the White House, Americans have been living a dystopia nightmare. The figures alone are mind-numbing. From mortgages ballooning from 3 percent to 8 percent.

"From petrol going from $2 (£1.57) under Trump to over $4 (£3.15) today. Then add the 30 percent increase in the cost of living, for the staples of life, like bacon and eggs and even energy, to the utter insanity of living in a nation with no borders.

"Yes, I know the UK has its own immigration issues, but they pale in comparison to the more than 10,000 illegals entering our country a day, which adds up to more than eight million unauthorized immigrants since Joe Biden was sworn in."

The Labour leader has been in Worcester today at a campaign event, where the main order of the day appears to be the future of Diane Abbott.

Responding to questions about media reports that the veteran MP had been barred from standing as a candidate again, the Labour leader told broadcasters: “I’ve seen various reports, I can only tell you what the factual situation is – as you know, the whip has been restored to Diane Abbott and no decision’s been taken barring her from standing. That’s the factual position and I’ve been happy to say that when asked to do so.”

When asked whether anonymous briefings to journalists had “overshadowed” his campaign, he said: “Obviously, my whole focus is on the election campaign and we’re very happy to be out campaigning here today, talking about what we’re going to do in relation to the NHS to drive down those waiting lists.”

When asked whether he would like to see her stand again, Sir Keir said: “She’s got the whip back and no decision’s been taken to bar her.”
