Brits look set to be drenched as a 742-mile giant wall of rain is forecast for Britain later this month.

New weather maps show a downpour that spreads the entire length of the country heading to our shores on June 22.

The WXChart predictions show that the stormy weather sweeps in from the very tip of northern Scotland in Wick right down to the Southern coast in Plymouth.

The epicentre of the torrential downpours have turned the weather maps red - meaning that the Western coast of Scotland including near Glasgow is set for up to more than 5mm of rain an hour.

Galloway Forest Park - also in Scotland - will also be dealing with the brunt of the rain and further south, around Snowdonia in Wales, is predicted for up to 3mm of rain per hour.

As well as the wetter weather the temperatures are fairly chilly on the same day - hovering around 11C in Glencoe in Scotland. However, the top temperatrue is predicted to reach 19C around Colchester in the south of the country.

Weather expert Jim Dale, who is senior meteorological consultant and founder of British Weather Services, says "heavy rain" could indeed be on its way.

He said: "Still a fair way off but it’s June 21 and heavy rain and strong winds East Anglia & SE England. One to watch, nothing certain at this stage".

The Met Office issues a long range forecast which covers from Monday, June 17 until Wednesday, June 19 and warns that “longer spells of rain are possible” as well as the possibility of thunder. It also predicts that temperatures are going to feel cooler for this time of year.

It says: “At first, the weather across the UK is likely to continue to be a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers, with some longer spells of rain also possible."

It adds: “Some showers are expected to be heavy and could be thundery at times. Temperatures will generally be around or a little below normal for mid-June, and it may well be breezy in places too.

“Through the weekend and into the following week, confidence in any particular weather pattern dominating becomes low. As such, the best forecast is for fairly typical June weather, with a mixture of weather types.

“This means some spells of drier, sunny weather but also some showers or longer spells of rain at times. Temperatures will most likely be close to or slightly below average.”
