It may not feel quite like it, but Britain is well and truly in its summer months. But once we enter autumn and then winter, the mercury will unsurprisingly tumble and the days shorten.

So, if you're looking to escape the winter blues this year and catch some sun, why not look east and head to a part of the world that boasts temperatures of 31C in mid-December?

In Cambodia, locals swelter while at home we freeze, making it the perfect destination for a winter jaunt.

In particular, Brits would be well-advised to consider a trip to the coastal city of Siem Reap. The historic metropolis is ideal for nature lovers as well as those keen to learn about Cambodia's fascinating past.

Siem Reap is one of if not the tourist centre of Cambodia - and for good reason.

It boasts stunning temples, preserved historical buildings as well as lakes to frolic in and hills to hike.

In particular, visitors are drawn to the Angkor Archaeological Park where the city's glorious Angkor Wat temple can be found.

Tourists also marvel at the Terrace of the Elephants - a 300-metre wall finished with delicate sculptures of elephants, Khmer dancers and warriors.

Speaking about the amazing Angkor Wat temple, one reviewer said: "This is a lifetime bucket list kind of place. It’s in out of the way Siem Reap but it’s certainly worth a special trip to visit.

"The complex is huge with many temples but we saw the three most popular temples - Angkor Wat, the biggest and best maintained."

Another said: "Fantastic monument. So big. So many building. So many stores. Only the small square toon us a day with a local Guide. Impressie. Must see in one's life. Start early in the morning because of high temperatures and breng enough water."
