Nicola Couglan exposed a hidden detail in an upcoming scene of Bridgerton. The highly anticipated third series of the historical romance drama hit Netflix today (May 16), with Nicola stepping into the shoes of the show's main character.
This series focuses on the budding relationship between longtime friends Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). Penelope was left heartbroken at the end of series two after she overheard Colin telling a group of bachelors that he would never court her.
As Penelope moves into the spotlight, she undergoes a major transformation. Discussing the moment Penelope's new look is unveiled, Nicola admitted the nerves took over.
The 37-year-old explained: "It was quite scary knowing there was a big new look moment which was going to be this big transformation into new Penelope.

"And also it’s scary to do it because you’re in a ballroom with 200 supporting artists, 30 cast members, all of the crew, and everyone’s looking. The nerves and trepidation Penelope felt were very much fuelled by my own nerves — obviously, I was afraid I was going to fall down the stairs."
Teasing hidden information about her outfit, the actress revealed: "But so much thought went into every costume, even the cloak that they made for me was magnetized, so when I opened it, it fell in a particular way.
During her first costume fitting for Penelope ahead of series three, Nicola admitted she got emotional when she saw her character's outfits for the first time.

"You know that you look different, so you feel different," she said. "It was really emotional, going to the first costume fittings and seeing fabrics that they’d chosen for this season."
Nicola added: "They draped some on me — it wasn’t even a dress at that point, and I teared up, because you feel this connection with the character." The transition from a supporting role to the main character has always been something heavily focused on within the series since the beginning.
Showrunner and executive producer Jess Brownell explained: "When the transition is made from side character to leading character, we think a lot about what story it is we’re trying to tell. When it comes to styling, she added, "It’s a lot more heady when it comes to the main characters."
