Bridgerton star Luke Newton has lifted the lid on the process behind Colin Bridgerton’s ‘glow-up’ for season three.
At the start of the first half of Netflix’s highly-anticipated new instalment, Colin returns from his travels and immediately attracts the attention of the ton’s eligible ladies.
However, his best friend Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) is still secretly pining for him and makes a triumphant return to the marriage market in the hopes of landing a husband.
Luke, 31, looks more handsome than ever in the third season, with a new trim and stylish fashion sense to ensure his central romance with Penelope is as steamy as possible.
Although Colin gives off devil-may-care charisma from the first episode, Luke’s dashing new look actually took months to get just right.

“I had several meetings in the months leading up starting to shoot the show, and we talked about how we wanted to change Colin’s look because of his journey,” Luke recalled.
“We talked a lot about how we were going to change his hair; that he had spent lots of time traveling on a boat, so we wanted wavy locks, like he’d just picked up a bit of seawater and put it through his hair.
“A way more relaxed, swept-back look for the hair which represents his travels and his new laidback attitude.”

Colin wastes no time regaling his male friends about his sexcapades across Europe while wooing the young women of the ton.
His new look, in fact, reflects his travels as the young Bridgerton embraces the different styles and cultures he encountered overseas.
“And same for the costume design,” Luke continued in his Q&A with Netflix.
“I remember going for my first fitting and having a new long, brown jacket, which I feel will be his iconic coat of the season.
“It was cool to look at the new versions of his wardrobe. He’s been influenced by all the cities that he’s been to — he’s been all over.
“It was really fun to feel a part of that, and to have those discussions and feel that anything I had to put in was appreciated and taken on board. It was great fun.”
Bridgerton season 3, part 1 is streaming now on Netflix. Part 2 releases Thursday, June 13.
