BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood inundated with support as she's taken off guard live on air

BBC Breakfast weather presenter Carol Kirkwood was surprised live on air today as she was serenaded by her co-stars Jon Kay and Sally Nugent. The pair sang Happy Birthday to the Scottish presenter, who is celebrating turning 62 years old.

Carol was quickly inundated with supportive and congratulatory messages from fans following the sing-song. As Sally and Jon cut to the weather earlier this morning, Carol appeared on screen and they immediately started singing.

The BBC star looked as if she had been taken off guard, but also seemed to be overjoyed. She started laughing as the singing continued.

"Moring Carol!" Sally said cheerily, as she replied: "Bless you both. Thank you! You took me by surprise completely, but how melodic.

"Thank you and good morning everyone," she added happily. Fans quickly rushed to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, to send their well wishes to the beloved BBC icon.

BBC Meteorologist Matt Taylor shared a sweet selfie of them both giggling with the message: "Happy birthday to the best of friends …partner in crime …colleague …and wonderful human being!

"Not the clearest of photos, but sums up the fun I have with @carolkirkwood. Happy birthday lovely!" (sic)

While a fan club for Carol re-posted the video with the caption: " Happy birthday to @carolkirkwood! Join in if you know the words!" (sic)

In the comments of both videos, fans flooded Carol with kind messages, with one writing: "Happy Birthday Carol, hope you have an awesome day." (sic)

Another penned: "Happy Birthday Carol… Have a lovely day xx." (sic)

A third added: "Happy Birthday @carolkirkwood have a wonderful and fabulous day lovely." (sic)

While one more wrote: "Happy Birthday Carol You are a national treasure. Oh and thank you for the beautiful sunshine in the Portsmouth area this morning. Have a wonderful day #BBCBreakfast #Happybirthdaycarol
