Naga says Simon's weather report 'can't beat penguins'

Naga Munchetty claimed her co-star "couldn't top" her previous segment during the latest instalment of BBC Breakfast. Naga returned to the red sofa alongside Charlie Stayt on Friday (May 31) as they shared the top headlines with viewers.

Joining them in the studio was rarely seen star Simon King, who was on hand to deliver the latest weather updates. Ahead of Simon's report, Naga revealed 11 penguin chicks had hatched at Chester Zoo, becoming the largest number born there in 10 years.

As Humboldt penguins are one of the most vulnerable species, keepers shared their delight at all the babies surviving the "delicate" first 40 days of life.

Turning to Simon, the 49-year-old quipped: "You can't beat penguins, can you? I don't know if sunshine even tops baby penguins."

Simon sarcastically confirmed there would be no baby animals in his weather report. Afterwards, Naga declared: "You couldn't top a baby penguin," as Simon interjected: "That was pretty good though."

Naga agreed: "But many people are going to be very very happy with this." Last month, Naga revealed she was forced to ban certain outfits after BBC Breakfast viewers emailed in to complain about them.

Appearing on Room 101 with Paul Merton, the news reader was asked if she faces a lot of pressure as a female presenter and whether she receives criticism about what she wears.

The BBC Radio 5 Live host responded: "There's only one time I've taken it on board and never worn an outfit again. One and a half. The first time, I wore this dress on breakfast and it had a geometric print and two people said it was causing them migraines, so I said, 'absolutely fine, I won't wear that again'."

Naga continued: "Then there was another one, I bought this brilliant dress, I still have it, this was about ten to twelve years ago and it was black and had all these eyes on it.

"Two people emailed in saying it was scaring them and giving them nightmares. So that one I have worn since but I haven't worn it much."
