Moira reassures Matty on Emmerdale

Emmerdale fans believe they have worked out Matty Barton's (played by Ash Palmisciano) fate, as he was questioned by police about stabbing Samson Dingle (Sam Hall) in the latest episode of the ITV soap. On Thursday night (June 6), horrified viewers watched as Samson’s new friend Josh (Osian Morgan) took a dislike to Matty.

When they had an altercation Josh started referring to Matty as “she”. While the situation escalated, Josh pushed Samson into Matty, unaware he was holding a knife from a food tray he had been tidying up, which stabbed Samson.

However, Josh insisted that Matty had stabbed Samson deliberately, rather than accidentally, framing the newlywed for the crime. A tearful Matty insisted to the police he would never hurt anyone. Choking on his tears, he enquired how Samson was, and was relieved to learn that his injuries weren't life-threatening.

While CCTV would have cleared him, Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) admitted there was none. Accosted by Matty's wife and mother, he said: "We've been trying to cut costs and the maintenance contract was really expensive... I regret that now, obviously."

Josh threatened Samson, telling him to stick to the story, leading to him giving a fabricated statement to police. He also earnestly told his parents that he was telling the truth.

A distraught Matty was released from custody and told his family: "I kept telling the police what happened and it was like they didn't want to believe me."

When stepdad Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) informed him that Samson was sticking to the lie, Matty became even more upset.

"No ones going to believe me," he cried. "The police, they'll have no choice but to charge me with knife crime. I could go down for years."

Fans found the storyline worrying, and believe they know what Matty's fate will be. They took to X, formerly known as Twitter to share their thoughts.

@RyanTheSoapking pointed out: "Yes it was an accident. But the Dingles aren’t going to let this go. It’s going to cause a massive divide between the Dingles especially Cain/Moira Lydia/Sam and Amy/Matty as they are all family. There is also CCTV and they all know Matty. #Emmerdale @emmerdale."

@DavidHe47935675 analysed: "Has Matty been in trouble at all? He wouldn't get years, especially when Samson did half arse his "a dont think he meant it" statement. Probation probably, 6 months at worst, especially post covid. Or Matty could get an anti-trans judge and get a thousand years. #Emmerdale."
@Winis_World cried@ "The fact that Matty could actually be sent down for this..is worry #Emmerdale" (sic)
@Chris1968 fumed: "#Emmerdale as if anyone in their right mind would believe Samson & that wee b****** over Matty. He literally wouldn't hurt a fly."

@SARamsay1 hopefully pointed out: "I'm so glad Matty told the police what happened; Josh pushed Samson. Samson just needs to stop being pathetic and not go along with him! If only he also tells the truth, it will change things. #Emmerdale."
