SB: Cyndi Lauper blows out candles on birthday cake
Sunday Brunch was back on screens this morning (June 23) with one very special guest - singing sensation Cyndi Lauper. Hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer were delighted to welcome her onto the show, but fans were baffled as she seemed to "go missing" for a short while.
The 71-year-old superstar was joined by Steve Toussaint, Jill Halfpenny, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Steve Stamp and Allan Mustafa on the Channel 4 show. Turning the attention to the singer, the show's host said: "Now Cyndi it's great to have you on the show.
"We're all so excited about it because you're such a huge celebrity. You recently did your handprints, didn't you, at the Chinese theatre."
He added: "I think we've got a picture here of you and Cher." The image of the two iconic singing sensations popped up on screen as Cyndi said: "I know, she's so sweet. She told me how to sign it."
The Girls Just Want To Have Fun singer explained a bit about one of her jobs before finding fame, as she said: "At another one of my jobs, I used to engrave cheap jewellery. We always had a tiny little thing and you had to write 'Happy Christmas grandma love Tommy'"
She added: "So I was writing small and she said 'no, you've got to write your name big.'" Cyndi expressed her love for the fellow celebrity as she said: "Thank goodness she was there. I love Cher."
But following the segment, which gave viewers an insight into Cyndi's busy life, they cut to a break and when they returned she was nowhere to be seen. Fans on X (formerly Twitter) were quick to point it out.
One wrote: "Cyndi Lauper has had enough and disappeared, I don’t blame her tbh #SundayBrunch." Another questioned: "She gone already? I can’t believe she agreed to appear on this s**t fest."
After a short while, the singing sensation returned with no explanation, so fans expressed their own theories. Someone posted: "#SundayBrunch Cindy’s back after her toilet break."
Fans of the show were also baffled over an unusual action of Cyndi's. The guests were all presented with a plate of frozen delights, including a colourful lolly ice.

As all of the other celebs tucked in to the icy treat, holding it by the stick, Cyndi left hers on the plate and used her cutlery to have a try, leaving fans horrified. One X user said: "Why is Cyndi Lauper eating an ice cream lolly with a knife and fork! #sundaybrunch."
Another added: "Cindy lauper eating a ice cream with a fork and knife [eyeroll emoji]". A third penned: "Seen it all. Cyndi Lauper eating an ice cream with a knife & fork #Sundaybrunch."
Earlier in the show, the team helped Cyndi celebrate her birthday. Host Tim said: "It was your birthday yesterday. And it is tradition, in Britain, when it is your birthday that you get..."
Simon finished his sentence for him as he said: "A Colin the Caterpillar cake." Tim continued: "And this is him. Look at this! This is what everyone in Britain dreams of."
A fanfare sound played in the studio as the TV host carried the cake over to the iconic singer. He said: "You don't have to eat it now but Happy Birthday!"
