What Rangers boss Steven Gerrard thinks as Gers seal Jake Hastie transfer deal
RANGERS boss Steven Gerrard insists Jake Hastie will “improve” the team after confirming the youngster will be heading to Ibrox in the summer.
Gerrard was thrilled to announce Rangers had secured the signature of the 20-year-old Motherwell winger on Wednesday.
The move to Glasgow marks a whirlwind few months for Hastie, as he was also recently nominated for PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year.
He joins on-loan Rangers winger Ryan Kent, Aberdeen's Lewis Ferguson and Motherwell team-mate David Turnbull on the shortlist for the award.
After the move, which will see Hastie join the Gers in the summer, was confirmed Gerrard gave his verdict on the transfer.
We’re always looking to add individuals to our group who will improve us and Jake will undoubtedly do that
“We’re delighted to be able to add Jake to the squad next season,” Gerrard said.
"He is a talented young player who has performed well in the second half of this season.
“We’re always looking to add individuals to our group who will improve us and Jake will undoubtedly do that.”
The winger only recently broke into the first team at Motherwell after he returned to the club in January from a loan spell.
Hastie played 23 games and scored three goals during his loan spell with Championship side Alloa Athletic in the first half of the season.
He then returned to Motherwell in January, where he has since made 17 appearances and scored six goals.
After securing a four-year deal with Rangers, Hastie admitted it has been a “crazy” few months.
“I’m absolutely over the moon,” he said.

“It’s been a whirlwind few months for me.
“It’s been crazy but I’ve just tried to focus on my football.
“I’ve always believed in my own ability and that’s allowed me to do what I’ve done so far.
“I know I need to keep my feet on the ground, though.”
