Graham Potter is reportedly willing to replace Erik ten Hag if the current Manchester United boss is sacked by the club's new decision-makers INEOS, but he is holding out for another position instead. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co are undertaking an end-of-season review that has left the Dutchman in limbo at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils' FA Cup win may not be enough to survive the axe after their eighth-placed finish in the Premier League. Ten Hag has insisted that another campaign not scuppered with injuries would see a dramatic improvement, but United are still weighing up whether or not to replace him with another option.

Potter is well-admired by INEOS and came close to being hired by the group at French club Nice. He is out of work after being dismissed by Chelsea last year and would be open to taking the top job at United, according to The Sun.

However, he is in no rush to return to club management as the ex-Brighton boss also believes that he has a chance of replacing Gareth Southgate at the England national team, potentially scuppering plans to take him to Manchester.

The possibility of leading the Three Lions is said to be Potter's main reason for turning down club opportunities elsewhere. While he would take the United job if asked by Ratcliffe, his sights are more set on international football.

Southgate himself has also been linked with the prospect of succeeding Ten Hag, but has been steadfast in his view that he won't discuss the prospect of taking another job before England's Euro 2024 campaign is over.

“Well, I'm not a big gambling man, and bookies, they can make their odds but it's not conversations that’s been had with me," Southgate told ITV last month when informed that he had been made favourite to take over from Ten Hag at Old Trafford.

“I've got one thing to focus on. That's having as successful a tournament with England as possible. Everything else outside of that is a complete irrelevance to me.’

“If I start talking about that, then I'm already distracted from what I'm doing. So, I think the country would expect that my focus is on England, and rightly so it is."
