Tottenham have reportedly initiated contact with Rennes to sign two of their young stars, brothers Desire Doue and Guela Doue. Both Doue siblings have excelled in Ligue 1 this season and attracted interest from the Premier League, with Spurs joining the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal in the race for a blockbuster double signing.

TBR Football claim that Ange Postecoglou’s side have become the latest team to show their interest in Desire Doue, the more attacking of the two siblings. He could join fellow new addition Timo Werner in bolstering Spurs’ frontline after the Aussie boss stressed his high ambitions in a furious rant after defeat to Manchester City.

Spurs have asked Rennes about the conditions that it would take to sign Desire, having scouted him extensively across the season. And he could yet be joined in north London by his brother Guela.

A shine has been taken to the versatile defender, with Spurs keen to bolster their options at the back after lengthy injuries were picked up by Destiny Udogie and Micky van de Ven last season.

Guela at 21 is the eldest of the two brothers, with 19-year-old Desire attracting interest also from United and Arsenal amid a host of top European clubs, but Spurs may hold an advantage if they are prepared to spend big on both players.

Desire has especially emerged as one of French football’s most exciting prospects, with Rennes said to be open to a sale of the winger but only in the region of £35million, in addition to a hefty fee Guela would also cost after becoming a mainstay in the Rennes backline.

Spurs will likely face more competition for Desire, who has two years left on his Rennes contract after several of his team-mates described him as the ‘best they have seen’, with head coach Julien Stephan admitting there was a realistic chance of his wonderkid moving on.

“We know today’s market, notably for the very young players,” Stephan said last month. “He will decide through his personal ambition. I’m not naive.

“We’re glad to have developed him during the second part of the season. He’s at risk of leaving without a single full season here, that’s a shame. I would have liked that; that would have been an ideal situation.”

Desire’s agent, former United and Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre, confirmed interest from Newcastle last summer in his client. But it remains to be seen whether Eddie Howe’s outfit are prepared to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Spurs without being able to offer European football to the France Under-21 star.
