Trent Alexander-Arnold has told Arsenal they have an ‘incredible’ goalkeeper in Aaron Ramsdale. That is despite the Gunners shot-stopper being demoted by Mikel Arteta last season and linked with an exit from the Emirates Stadium.

Ramsdale was dropped by Arteta in favour of loanee David Raya last September, with Raya’s temporary deal now made permanent. But Alexander-Arnold has warned the north Londoners that Ramsdale is ‘incredible’.

The Liverpool star highlighted his England colleague’s ability under pressure and his technique as two of his key assets. Arsenal may want to heed the advice of a rival before deciding on selling Ramsdale this summer, especially with Premier League clubs eyeing a potential move.

“He’s really good with his feet. As you can see under pressure, he’s really good, even the pass to (Eberechi) Eze,” Alexander-Arnold said on England’s official channels while watching a clip of Ramsdale in training.

“I’m looking at the technique more and more on the pass. He doesn’t take a touch afterwards. The shape of his body, it’s like that cat meme with a cat taking a free-kick.

“Rammers is my boy I back him to the death. Incredible goalkeeper and incredible guy.”

Ramsdale has been linked with a move to Newcastle. However, no offer has materialised and the Magpies will welcome back Nick Pope from a long-term injury at the start of next season.

The 26-year-old has told Arsenal that he does not want another season sat on their bench. He made just six Premier League appearances last season, including only two after Raya displaced him in September.

“No footballer wants to not play. I’ve had a tough year personally not playing and I never want to do that again,” Ramsdale told TalkSPORT last month.

“It was tough, it was tough. But I have my release now, I’m now here, I’ve got the greatest honour, the greatest badge on my chest, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if I play a minute or no minutes, it will be the pinnacle for me, the best day ever.

“For the time being I’m probably one of the happiest 26, 27 men in England and hopefully we can make not just us but however many millions at home the happiest as well.”

After Arsenal confirmed the permanent addition of Raya this week, Arteta hailed his goalkeeping department in a sign that he wants Ramsdale to remain. The Spaniard said: “We have a very talented group of goalkeepers and I love to see connections like the one I see in our goalkeeping unit.”
