England football team continue their Euro 2024 campaign today as Switzerland await in the quarter-final. It’s do or die for Gareth Southgate and his players as they bid for a place in the last four in Germany.

There have been rumours of a radical shake-up in a bid to improve performances. Some reports suggest that Southgate may switch to a 3-4-2-1 formation, with Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham as joint-No 10s.

Marc Guehi is suspended, with Ezri Konsa likely to come into the team for the defender. The possible formation switch could also see Kyle Walker start as a right-sided centre-back.

Semi finals set

Tuesday: Spain vs France

Wednesday: Netherlands vs England

Netherlands 2-1 Turkey

Cody Gakpo celebrates after turning home a cross at the far post to continue his stellar Euro 2024 campaign.

The Netherlands have turned this match around in a matter of minutes as Denzel Dumfries' low cross was bundled in, though could still go down as an own goal.

Netherlands 1-1 Turkey

The Netherlands have equalised through Stefan de Vrij as the Inter Milan defender powered a header to spark jubilation among the fans in orange.

De Vrij found himself unmarked inside the box and latched onto Memphis Depay's cross to keep their hopes alive.

Netherlands 0-1 Turkey

Turkey have taken the lead against the Netherlands and taken a step closer to a Euro 2024 semi-final against England.

Samet Akaydin rose highest at the back post to head home his first goal for his country after Arda Guler's high cross evaded Bert Verbruggen.

Harry Kane injury update

England captain Harry Kane confirmed that he will be fully fit for their semi-final against either the Netherlands or Turkey.

The Bayern Munich striker was forced off with injury during extra-time of the victory over Switzerland following a collision with Manuel Akanji.

But he has since revealed that he only suffered "cramp" and was "tired" and he can be expected to lead the line once more.

England win on penalties

Jubilation for England as they have defeated Switzerland on penalties and reached the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

Manuel Akanji missed the sole spot-kick as Trent Alexander-Arnold put the Three Lions into the final four against either Holland or Turkey.

Netherlands vs Turkey lineups

Netherlands XI: Verbruggen, Dumfries, De Vrij, Van Dijk, Ake, Schouten, Reijnders, Simons, Bergwijn, Gakpo, Memphis.

Turkey XI: Gunok; Muldur, Akaydin, Bardakci, Kadioglu; Ozcan, Ayhan; Yildiz, Calhanoglu, Yilmaz; Arda Guler.

England go to extra-time

England's quarter-final with Switzerland has finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, with the two sides now heading to extra-time.

Breel Embolo opened the scoring after 75 minutes when he prodded home from the back post.

But five minutes later Bukayo Saka levelled the scores when he curled an effort from the right in off the post.

Pedri out of Euro 2024

Spain star Pedri has been ruled out of the remainder of Euro 2024 with an injury he picked up in his side's quarter-final victory over Germany.

The Barcelona midfielder was forced off early in their clash in tears after a challenge by Toni Kroos.

“Following tests carried out on international player Pedri Gonzalez, the Canarian player has a grade 2 internal lateral sprain in his left knee,” read a statement by the Spanish team.

“The footballer will remain with his teammates until the end of the current training camp, which is focused on the Euro 2024 tournament.”

Such a sprain would likely keep Pedri out for approximately a month, ending his campaign prematurely.

Phil Foden explains England formation change

Phil Foden is likely to operate in a more central role, flanked by wing-backs Bukayo Saka and Kieran Trippier against Switzerland.

"We changed formation to match what they do and get pressure up the field and to try retain the ball,” the Manchester City man told the BBC. “Let's see if it works, I am looking forward to it!

"For me it will be I'll be more centrally and staying inside. I think it will suit me a little bit better today. If we get the formation right and press right it will give us a lot of confidence.

"Extremely confident, we have worked hard and in training it has been working really well - hopefully we can get rewards from it. I feel we want to win for him [Gareth Southgate] and for the big occasion that it is."

England lineup vs Switzerland

The team is in and it appears that Gareth Southgate has, as predicted, switched to a back three to take on Switzerland this evening.

England XI: Pickford, Trippier, Walker, Stones, Konsa, Saka, Rice, Mainoo, Bellingham, Foden, Kane (c)

Switzerland XI: Sommer; Schar, Akanji, Rodriguez; Aebischer, Freuler, Xhaka, Rieder; Vargas, Ndoye, Embolo.

England vs Switzerland: All the details

England face Switzerland at Euro 2024 in a little over two hours.

The quarter-final will decide who plays either Netherlands or Turkey in the last-four.

England have travelled to Dusseldorf for today's game, which is a 5pm kick-off.

The predicted line-up is as follows: Pickford, Walker, Stones, Konsa, Trippier, Mainoo, Rice, Saka, Bellingham, Foden, Kane.

Gareth Southgate criticised by player after not being picked

Uncapped Brentford star Rico Henry has criticised Gareth Southgate for not taking him to Euro 2024.

Luke Shaw was the only recognised left-back taken to the tournament, but he has not played in Germany as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

Kieran Trippier started on the left of a back four in each of England’s first four games - although Southgate seems set to switch to a back three tonight against Switzerland.

Henry believes he could have made a difference at the tournament.

“It’s been difficult watching England at Euro 2024 playing without an out-and-out left-back because I know I could do a job there," he told Brentford's official website.

"Luke Shaw has been struggling with an injury and we haven’t got any other left-footed full-backs in the squad.

“And, when I’ve watched them this summer, I just feel like I could fit so well into that team. It has been frustrating not being there but it’s also been great to watch, seeing them doing well and getting into the quarter-finals."

Wimbledon fans miss out on England Euro 2024 clash

Wimbledon will continue to not show Euro 2024 on the big screens despite England reaching the quarter-final.

The Three Lions face Switzerland at 5pm today.

But Wimbledon goers will not be able to watch the match as Championships organisers insisted that all the screens should show tennis.

“The big screens will be showing tennis,” the All England Club chair Debbie Jevans said before the Championships.

“All the screens around the grounds will be showing tennis. We’ll only be showing tennis, as matches will be going on into the evenings.

“If England are doing well a few people may slip away to watch football, but the Euros won’t affect attendances. We’ve had record applications, all the hospitality packages have sold out so we’re not nervous. The ballot was oversubscribed and we sold out in record time.”

Toni Kroos escapes red card on football farewell

Luis de la Fuente wanted Toni Kroos sent off in his final game of professional football.

Kroos signed off after Germany were dumped out of Euro 2024 by Spain.

But the Real Madrid star infuriated the Spanish with a tackle on Pedri, which forced the midfielder off.

"I think it was a red card," boss De la Fuente began. "Whether he is on the pitch or off, Pedri will continue to contribute. They are games that are like that, when you are playing so much, at this point, you have to use your whole squad.

"Any of the 26 players are ready. Everyone has their role at the right time. I'm very proud of these players. Tomorrow we are going to recover, and we are going to try to have the largest number of players."

Jude Bellingham free to play for England

Jude Bellingham will be free to play for England today after escaping a ban.

The midfielder seemed to perform a gesture involving his crotch after scoring against Slovakia in the Euro 2024 last-16.

It prompted a UEFA investigation that finally ended yesterday.

Bellingham has been fined around £30,000 and been handed a one-match ban, suspended for 12 months.

Friday's results

Spain and France will meet in one of the Euro 2024 semi-finals.

Both of their quarter-final ties went to extra-time on Friday, with France needing penalties to overcome Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo after a drab goalless draw.

Meanwhile, Spain defeated Germany 2-1.

Former Newcastle midfielder Mikel Merino scored in the 119th minute to knock out the hosts.

Anthony Taylor chastised by Germans

Anthony Taylor felt the wrath of the Germans after waving away a penalty appeal against Spain.

Germany were knocked out of their home Euro 2024 on Friday.

But they felt they should have been awarded a penalty with the score level at 1-1.

A goal-bound shot struck the hand of Marc Cucurella.

Taylor did not give a penalty, correctly applying the laws of the game. The defenders hand was not making his body unnaturally bigger.

But Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann fumed:“When the ball is clearly heading for the goal, the Spaniard stops the ball with his hand.

"He doesn't do it on purpose, but that doesn't matter."

The German media was similarly angry. Newspaper Bild complained that Taylor refused to answer questions after the game.

England set for radical formation change

England boss Gareth Southgate is set to ditch his 4-2-3-1 ahead of facing Switzerland.

Instead, it is widely reported that the Three Lions will adopt a 3-4-2-1 formation, with Bukayo Saka deployed as a left-wing-back.

Ezri Konsa is the only player expected to come into the England team, replacing the suspended Marc Guehi.

Likely England team: Pickford, Walker, Stones, Konsa, Trippier, Mainoo, Rice, Saka, Bellingham, Foden, Kane.

England fans clash with Germans after ‘going home’ chant

England fans clashed with Germans following the hosts’ Euro 2024 exit on Friday evening.

Three Lions supporters taunted passing Germans with chants of: "They're going home, they're going home, they're going, Germans going home."

In footage shared by the Daily Mail, the home fans were seen gesturing to their England counterparts before things got heated.

Two fans then squared up before a can of drink flew from the English group towards the Germans, sparking a short-lived brawl.

There were several moments of aggression, including kicks and punches, before members of the respective parties broke up the tensions.

Mikel Arteta admits ‘tough’ tournament for Arsenal duo

Mikel Arteta admitted that England stars Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka have had ‘tough’ tournaments.

The Three Lions duo have been part of some underwhelming performances under Gareth Southgate.

Arteta said he was delighted for them after England overcame Slovakia.

“[Jude Bellingham’s equaliser] was an unbelievable moment,” Arteta told CBS.

“I was watching it with my boys and my son is a huge fan of Jude Bellingham so he was running and jumping all over the place.

“So glad for the boys [Rice and Saka] because I know it’s been a tough few weeks for them.

“But they showed the character and the resilience that is needed in tournaments to create a moment that hopefully is going to turn a lot of things around.”
