Arne Slot will be keen to hit the ground running at Liverpool this summer, both in terms of making an impact on the team as well as in the transfer window.

With a spending spree expected at both ends of the pitch, the Dutchman has plenty to be excited about heading into the next few weeks of business.

However, there is also a lot that could go wrong for Slot, especially as he has such big shoes to fill in the Anfield dugout following the departure of Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season.

The first thing on the agenda for the ex-Feyenoord boss is likely to be resolving any uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah given that reports are brewing, once again, that Saudi Pro League clubs are set to attempt to sign him once again this summer.

The Egypt international will fetch a significant fee if he were to head to the Middle East, but he may be irreplaceable at this stage and Slot must ensure that the tricky winger is onboard with his project and has not had his head turned by the money on offer in Saudi Arabia.

In a similar vein, Liverpool must prevent Trent Alexander-Arnold or Virgil van Dijk from considering moves away from the club. The defensive duo are both out of contract in 2025 and will remain stalwarts on Merseyside next season.

It was hard to envision either of the pair parting ways with the Reds whilst Klopp was in charge, but a fresh face in the dugout changes the situation and Slot must ensure that he is not snubbed by two of the fan favourites. Ideally, they would both sign contract extensions before next season arrives.

Liverpool’s window does not purely rely on retaining the services of their most important players.

Incomings are also required if the Reds are to close the gap on Manchester City and Arsenal, who are both expected to spend big and have sensational projects on offer to their targets.

Thus, it would be disastrous if Liverpool were unable to bolster their ranks this summer and miss out on top targets to rivals. If the likes of Crycensio Summerville were to head to Chelsea and Nico Williams to Arsenal then the club may need to rethink their moves in the closing stages of the window.

With another right-winger required to provide cover for Salah and potentially a new No. 6 needed to strengthen the club’s core, failing to sign either would cap off a poor summer for Liverpool.
