Man Utd 'decide on swapping Jadon Sancho for Ben Chilwell' with Chelsea transfer talks on

The Red Devils have reportedly been offered a straight swap deal with Chelsea as their transfer position becomes clear.

Manchester United have reportedly made their stance clear on Jadon Sancho's future as it emerged they had opened talks with Chelsea over a potential swap deal for Ben Chilwell.

The winger remains out of the picture at Old Trafford despite resolving his feud with Erik ten Hag and hasn't featured since the Community Shield defeat against Manchester City.

United are keen to offload the 24-year-old permanently before the transfer deadline on August 30. However, there are not currently any bids on the table that would meet their demands.

Reports suggested they could be tempted into a straight swap deal with Premier League rivals Chelsea that would see Sancho return to his birthplace in London and Chilwell move to Old Trafford.

However, United have 'made it known' they aren't interested in letting Sancho leave on a straight loan again and want to cut ties with the England international permanently.

According to BBC Sport, that could mean either a sale or a loan deal with an obligation to buy clause inserted.

It is understood, however, that United have no concrete interest in signing left-back Chilwell, which could scupper any Chelsea plans to swap him for Sancho.

Another deal that could be in the offing is related to Raheem Sterling, who won four Premier League titles with United's rivals Manchester City.

The 29-year-old is expected to leave the Blues after being stripped of his No. 7 shirt number and told he is surplus to requirements, just two years after his £47.5million transfer in 2022.

Sterling is the highest-paid player at Stamford Bridge earning £300,000 a week and the west London outfit are keen to offload him following his return of just 19 goals in 81 appearances.

But there are still issues to be ironed out between Chelsea and Sterling, as he still has three years left to run on his current deal.

The England star is keen to know what contractual terms will be offered to him if he agrees to leave and time is running out before the August 30 transfer deadline.

Along with PSG and Juventus, United are one of the few clubs in the world able to afford Sterling in terms of their wage structure. It remains to be seen whether they follow up on their reported interest, with Sancho's destination likely to dictate their movements.

Given his previous stints with Liverpool and Manchester City, Sterling choosing to wear a United shirt would inevitably divide opinion. But he may be left with few other options if he is to continue his Premier League career.

But it could prove to be a marriage of convenience if Chelsea move towards trying to sign Sancho, with both players out of favour and in desperate need of a fresh start.
