Carlos Alcaraz will reportedly not participate in the Spain national team’s celebrations following their Euro 2024 success, despite previously planning to be involved following his success at Wimbledon.

The 21-year-old retained his men’s singles crown in style at SW19 on Sunday, cruising to a victory in straight sets over Novak Djokovic.

Alcaraz stormed into a convincing lead before appearing to lose composure with the championship at his mercy, squandering three match points to send the third set to a tiebreak. The Spaniard quickly regained his cool though to land the spoils with a 6-2 6-2 7-6 success and wrap up proceedings swiftly.

The victory kickstarted a super day for Spanish sport, with the national team winning the Euro 2024 final 2-1 over England thanks to goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal.

Alcaraz was expected to be a part of La Roja’s celebrations in Madrid following his individual success, though Marca report that those arrangements have now been changed and the tennis star will fly directly to Murcia in preparation for training on Wednesday.

In contrast, the Spain football team are set to soak up the moment and will return to Spanish soil on Monday and meet with King Felipe VI before travelling to the Moncloa Palace to be congratulated by Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. They will then tour the streets of Madrid to celebrate with locals.

Alcaraz was overjoyed that Spain had managed to go all the way in Germany and shared his delight on X once the full-time whistle sounded. He wrote: “CHAMPIONS! CHAMPIONS! CHAMPIONS! How great you are @SEFutbol !!! What a Euro Cup spectacle.”

He then followed up his post with a second tweet, saying: “We’ll have to celebrate, right?”

Alcaraz is unlikely to have been able to watch Spain’s victory in all its glory because of the Wimbledon champions ball, which clashed with the football. The ceremonial dinner takes place in central London, which forced Alcaraz to have to watch parts of the match on his phone.

Speaking about the clash in events, he said: “Well, I have the dinner that all the winners have, after all. I will watch it for sure at the phone the first half. The second half I will watch on the TV over there. I can't miss it. So it's going to be a really big moment for the Spanish people. I have to just stay there. As they were watching my final, I have to watch their final and support them."
