Doreen Osberg still remembers her first shift at McDonald's. The year was 1974 — a Big Mac cost about 50 cents and the Quarter Pounder was a recent addition to the menu.

“I had to work the shake machine, and they had these old shake machines, they were odd shaped things,” Osberd said. “I must have been too short because the shake fell on my head.”
