As a career expert, I can tell you that a strong personal brand aligned with your career goals is a key to promotions. By reflecting on your skills and values, then actively showcasing them through projects, networking, and online presence, you build a reputation as someone who excels in your desired field. This targeted branding positions you for advancement when opportunities arise, making you a natural fit for the role.

Within a career we are all products/ brands. The first thing to do is to create our value proposition, For it to be powerful we need to research what JTBD we need to fulfill and how our traits/ strengths allow us to build a compelling value proposition. This means we really need to know ourselves (what we want/ what we are good at) as much as we need to know and understand others (the job).

It can take time to build the foundation of who you are as a brand, however, connecting your passions with your skills and professional experience is an exercise that allows you to start with something. No, imposter syndrome doesn't help, avoid focusing on shortcomings and highlight your strengths. So make three columns, one of your passions, one of your skills and one of your professional experience and start linking them by lines, finally start building your story based on these connections.

This work, the one we are all engaged in day to day is about recognising value in your peers and interactions. Networking smartly then is about understanding the after effect of investing in relationships rather than transactions. Long term success comes from deep connections that have both trust and confidence in them. Network to me is beyond just the initial meet and greet, it’s about finding a way you can add value to the person you take the time to interact with. Often without them asking for that value add but deciding to show them they matter to you beyond the initial contact card exchange.

I've found it to very impactful to join mentoring circles and programs within my division, as well as network with other brands my company represents. Mentoring and being the mentee can build lasting relationships across the company that you can leverage in the future when you find a position of interest in another are. Represent yourself and your personal brand as authentically as possible, and maintain those relationships over time.

Seeking feedback from leaders other than your own is important, I also recommend seeking feedback from your peers. Your peers impressions of your brand and work you provide can be insightful and help you find areas of focus, or areas you didn't realize you already shine.

Seeking feedback is an excellent opportunity to engage with your audience through polls, LinkedIn posts, and the comments section. In my experience, being open to improvements demonstrates that you value your network opinions and showcases your transparency as an expert. .

Continuing your education whether it's self development, leadership courses, strengthening your Excel knowledge, it all keeps you at the top of your game, can provide networking opportunities, and aids your promotional ability.
