I like to incorporate self-directed learning activities in events like English Day at my school. We set up different learning stations where each focuses on a different skill, allowing students to have the freedom to choose activities that align with their interests and learning styles. They can rotate between stations at their own pace, spending more time on areas where they feel they need additional practice. For example, one time the theme was animals so we did a reading station (with books and visual aids), a speaking station (with prompt cards), a listening station (audio recordings about descriptions of the animals - then fill out a graphic organiser) and a technology station (watch animal videos on iPad).
