Joint Fires for the Joint Fight!
Congratulations to Sergeant Jay Westbrook Jr and Corporal Jacob Barczynski of 2d Battalion, 25th Marines for academically placing first and second place, respectively, among their 16-man class during the recently graduated Joint Fires Observer Controller (JFOC) Course held by Expeditionary Warfare Training Group – Atlantic aboard JEB Little Creek-Fort Story!
Joint Fire Observers, or JFOs, are critical billet holders possessing the knowledge and skills necessary to engage targets with joint fires through detailed integration with Terminal Attack Controllers (TACs). JFOs are capable of requesting, controlling, and adjusting joint mortar, field artillery, and naval surface fire support systems in support of frontline troops, and are invaluable contributors to joint fire support planning at the company level.
The newly-acquired skills that these two #Marines bring back to their battalion significantly increase the regiment’s combat readiness, and will be invaluable next summer when 2/25 participates as the Ground Combat Element of #MAGTF25 during ITX 3-25.
