Celebrating 4th MAW's Legacy On August 22, 1942, the 4th Marine Base Defense Aircraft Wing was established in Hawaii, with squadrons at Midway, Ewa, and Samoa, playing a crucial role in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Renamed the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing in 1944, its pilots pioneered techniques that continue to influence the Marine Air Ground Task Force today. From WWII through the Korean War to the Global War on Terrorism and beyond, the 4th MAW has upheld its reputation for excellence, reaffirming its vital role in combat and crisis response. Today, we honor the 4th MAW's proud legacy and look forward with confidence to its continued tradition of defending freedom. (U.S. Marine Corps graphic created by Lance Cpl.
