The Firehouse 17th Annual Block Party for Peace is finally here! Join the The Firehouse Community Arts Center, an A Better Chicago portfolio organization, this Saturday as they continue to break the cycle of violence among youth and young adults in North Lawndale. Executive Director Phil Jackson and Jaquan Markese Funches joined Fox 32 Chicago to share what the Block Party is all about! 🔥

Emily joins us as our new Investment Operations Coordinator, where she'll be enhancing our investor relations and supporting donor administration. Emily brings a strong background in mentoring and advocating for Chicago's youth through experiences with City Year and Bottom Line. As the Bud Billiken Parade takes place tomorrow on Chicago’s South Side, here's a brief look at its history. Bud Billiken was a fictional character created in 1923 by Robert S. Abbott, founder of the Chicago Defender, who was created with the introduction to a youth section to the paper. During the Great Depression, Bud became a symbol of pride and hope for Black residents. The inaugural parade was held on Aug. 11, 1929, to spotlight underprivileged children. Today, it’s the largest African-American parade in the U.S. and continues to celebrate youth, education, and culture every second Saturday in August.
