Protecting and keeping our communities safe is a priority. Yesterday, AAPCHO joined The White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention and AAPI Against Gun Violence Coalition along with many AA and NH/PI leaders, survivors, and advocates for a roundtable to discuss and learn about initiatives and resources. Participants shared perspectives about the gun violence crisis and asked the Administration for concrete steps. This week, the U.S. Surgeon General made historic declaration that gun violence is a public health crisis. The declaration was paired with a new report analyzing rates of firearm violence and its impacts on our nation’s economy, health, and future. Read more: https://bit.ly/3xAUYE0.

About us
The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO) is a national organization advocating for medically underserved Asian Americans (AAs), Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (NHPIs) and the community health providers that serve them. We work in conjunction with our members and partners to offer programs and services that promote advocacy, collaboration, and leadership to improve the health of AAs and NHPIs. AAPCHO advocates for the unique and diverse health needs of AA and NHPI communities through: • ADVOCACY: Serving as a unified voice of our membership, we share our collective knowledge and experience with policymakers to advocate for the continued support and growth of health centers that ensure AAs and NHPIs have better access to affordable, high quality, and culturally and linguistically appropriate health care. • RESEARCH AND DATA: We conduct research to advance the medical knowledge and increase the health care data on AA and NHPI communities. • CAPACITY BUILDING: We provide training and technical assistance to health centers and partners to support excellence in care delivery.

On World Refugee Day, we honor the perseverance and strength of refugees around the world, including Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. Many AAPI families have fled conflict, persecution, and natural disasters, rebuilding their lives with courage and determination. They enrich our communities with diverse cultures, traditions, and skills. AAPI refugees often face unique challenges in accessing healthcare, including language barriers, cultural insensitivity, and complex bureaucracies. These challenges can be further compounded by fear and uncertainty due to current immigration policies. Read more about how we can support AAPI refugees and other immigration recommendations here: https://lnkd.in/gceXUkX9 Today, let’s stand together for refugees, asylum seekers, and all those facing displacement, offering understanding and welcoming them to our communities. #WorldRefugeeDay #WithRefugees #AANHPIhealth

Today, the Biden administration announced new executive actions on immigration. Adam Carbullido, director of policy and advocacy of AAPCHO, joined advocates and partners across the country at the White House earlier today to celebrate the 12th anniversary of #DACA and the proposed new policy changes that will provide immigration relief to mixed-status families including more than half a million individuals. The executive actions are the most significant for immigrants and their families since the DACA program was first announced in 2012. Today's announcement is a key step in the right direction and AAPCHO looks forward to continuing to work with the administration and our members and other partners toward comprehensive immigration reform that keeps families together. #ProtectFamilies #ImmigrantHeritageMonth

We are thankful and humbled to be able to spend part of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in community with our Members! Last week, AAPCHO convened an in-person meeting with our CA Member CHCs to discuss best practices and recommendations to improve the health of older adults and caregivers including Asian Americans (AAs), Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (NH/PIs), and other vulnerable populations served at CHCs. We thank the Archstone Foundation for its generous support of the meeting including President and CEO, Christopher Langston, who made time to join us to learn more about AAPCHO Members' successes and challenges in providing care to older adults. Thank you all for connecting with us and sharing your valuable perspectives! See more photos from the meeting here: https://bit.ly/3Ke3Z8F.
