We recently celebrated the grand opening of our San Francisco office. 🌉✨ As part of the festivities, we brought together the top AI and healthcare professionals in the Bay Area. Shivdev Rao, our CEO and Founder, set the stage for an inspiring event, while Julia Chou Chapin, our COO, facilitated a panel discussion on "Generative AI Grows Up—From Magic Trick to Industrial Technology." Zachary Lipton (Abridge CTO/CSO), Olivier Godement (OpenAI Head of Product, API), and Katherine Lee (Google DeepMind Research Scientist) discussed generative AI's maturation from novelty to becoming a core technological building block. Key topics of conversation included the need to balance innovation with stability and performance, ways to ensure safety and integrity in AI models, and how to evaluate the impact of behavior-changing model updates on downstream AI applications. At Abridge, responsible AI development is core to our culture. At the end of the day, products are built by people, so it makes sense that the best products come from a strong, connected team. Our new office is designed to foster the conversations that drive our mission forward, and we look forward to all we’ll build to continue making a positive impact on clinicians and patients.

Two of our brilliant team members, Davis Liang and Elisa Ferracane, PhD, represented Abridge at ACL 2024 in Bangkok, showcasing research that pushes the boundaries of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and multilingual understanding. 🌎🌟 Davis Liang, a Staff Research Scientist at Abridge, presented Belebele, a multilingual reading comprehension dataset covering 122 language variants designed to tackle the global challenge of understanding text across diverse languages. This dataset enables direct comparison of how well models understand different languages and opens new possibilities for evaluating and discussing LLM multilinguality: https://lnkd.in/ewbCEvAp Elisa Ferracane, a Senior NLP Research Scientist at Abridge, in collaboration with lead author Sanjana Ramprasad, an Abridge research intern, shared cutting-edge research on tackling hallucination errors in LLMs, particularly in dialogue summarization.
