AJO is NYU Journalism's 30-credit, fully remote masters degree program. Our students come from all walks of life, including professional journalists looking to enhance their skills or prepare to teach at the university level; mid-career workers who want to pivot to the journalism career they always dreamed of; and recent college graduates. What they all have in common is that they want a rigorous education and they don't want to (or can not) move to New York City to get it. Our students attend all classes online and thus live all over the word, from Hawaii to Senegal to the UK to Vietnam. We pride ourselves on a unique student body, consisting of parents and caregivers, people living with disabilities, working professionals, and full-time students. We encourage our students to publish while at AJO and employ a full-time dedicated career and pitching specialist to help them find places for their work - and full-time jobs. Just this year AJO students have published in Mother Jones, the Forward, NPR, Rolling Stone and Business Insider, found jobs at The US Sun, ABC and CBS News, and gotten funding for their original podcasts.

On July 4, 1957, former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt wrote for her "My Day" column this about Independence Day: "From a very small nation, weak and uncertain as to how we could defend ourselves, we grew in strength until today we are so strong we can bring more strength than any other to the society of nations known as the United Nations. This has happened over a very few years, and perhaps the growth in responsibility has been more rapid than we as a nation were prepared to accept. But whether we wanted this responsibility or not, we now must accept it. It is for that reason, I think, that we should use the Fourth of July to remind ourselves of the ideals and principles on which this nation was founded and to bring to our children a sense of the meaning this country had, when it was founded, for the rest of the world." NEWEST for Business Insider: I spoke with Tim Milgram on what galvanized him to start the investigation that led to the docuseries #DancingForTheDevil on Netflix. Tim is not only a Co-Executive Producer on the streaming hit, he's also a well-respected filmmaker and cinematographer and integral part of the Los Angeles dance community. "I think it's a beautiful thing for us to be able to stand up against something like that," Milgram told Business Insider of creating the doc. "For us in the dance community to be able to stand up and say, 'No, this is not okay for an organization like this to take advantage of dancers' — that is a triumph." As a dancer, choreographer, and member of the Choreographers Guild, I'm always inspired to see artists empowering and advocating on behalf of their community. And as a journalist now for three years (!), I am grateful to have these two worlds intersect in this piece.
