Donald Trump accused Vice President Harris of being “Indian all the way” until she “made a turn” and “became a Black person.” Over 33 million Americans identify as being of two or more races. Had former U.S. gymnast MyKayla Skinner known the NSFW name the U.S. women’s gymnastics team uses to refer to themselves before they cruised to the gold medal in Tuesday’s Olympic team final in Paris, she might have thought twice about criticizing the group last month. “lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions,” U.S. superstar Simone Biles captioned an Instagram photo of the Americans celebrating their gold medal on Tuesday night. Biles didn’t tag her former teammate, but the caption sure seemed to be a reference to Skinner’s comments after this year’s U.S. Olympic gymnastics trials.

In December, after a string of student overdoses in Loudoun County, Va., public schools, a reporter mocked superintendent Aaron Spence on social media for not giving him an interview about the crisis. “What has Spence and his chief communication officer, Natalie Allen, been doing this week?” WJLA-TV reporter Nick Minock wrote. “Meeting worms, according to Spence’s tweet.” But the photos Minock attached — showing the superintendent handling an earthworm in an elementary school classroom — had been taken two months earlier, as a frustrated district spokesman informed the journalist.

Age is just a number in the women’s singles table tennis competition at the Paris Olympics, where 61-year-old Ni Xia Lian, who is representing Luxembourg, blew kisses to the South Paris Arena crowd after defeating 31-year-old Sibel Altinkaya of Turkey on Saturday. Lian, who was born in China but is representing Luxembourg for her sixth Olympics, is one of the oldest competitors in Paris.

Just 4½ months ago, isolated in a barely functioning hospital in northern Gaza, 6-year-old Fadi al-Zant was at death’s door. The medication he needed to treat his cystic fibrosis was nowhere to be found. He was also starving. As videos of Fadi spread around the world, he briefly became the face of Gaza’s hunger crisis. Then attention moved on. The war in Gaza has displaced more than 1.9 million people, according to the United Nations. Aid shipments plummeted amid Israeli restrictions, leaving hundreds of thousands hungry, including Fadi, who rapidly declined as his family was forced to move from place to place in search of safety.
Images of a starving Palestinian boy went viral. The attention saved him.

In the 97 days before the election, billionaire investor Reid Hoffman is dedicating himself to a single task: Getting Kamala Harris into the Oval Office. Since President Biden left the race, the LinkedIn co-founder said he has spent most waking moments working the phones. His job as an investor is taking a back seat while he rallies members of his elite Silicon Valley circle to put their money and influence behind the vice president. Even as Tesla CEO Elon Musk, investors Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, Sequoia partner Doug Leone and others have very vocally endorsed Trump, appearing to signal a rightward shift in Silicon Valley, other tech leaders have been reinvigorated by Harris’s emergence as Biden’s likely successor.
